Carey began her career as an Art Department Runner on Once Were Warriors in the early 90s. She soon transitioned from the art department to production, spending the rest of the decade working on TVCs and films in Auckland.
Afterward, Carey spent two decades in Wellington. At Weta Digital & Weta FX, she served as PM for Digital Effects departments on major projects including Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Man of Steel, Iron Man 3, and The Hobbit amongst others. Her later years were spent at renowned agencies such as Clemenger (now ClemengerBBDO) and Ogilvy.
The call of Rings of Power brought her back to Auckland, where she has now settled, finding the move to be both fulfilling and perfectly timed.
