Kent has been involved in film-making since he was 7 when he started his career as a child actor. At the age of 13, he had decided he wanted to become a Cinematographer. By his late teens, Kent had taught himself all aspects of 16mm and 35mm film cameras and was offered an apprenticeship at a camera rental facility.

He learnt his craft camera assisting for 15 years before taking the leap towards his big ambition - to become a Director of Photography. He stepped up at an interesting time with the industry's shift from film to digital. But the fundamentals he learnt in the more disciplined analogue process of film-making still shape his creative approach today. Kent has 5 short films to his name, picking up a gold cinematography award in Macau for his work on Catch of the Day and has also recently shot his full length feature, Northspur, released in September 2022. Kent says of Northspur “We had an amazing group of people involved and I truly feel that the collective ‘can do’ attitude shows in what we captured. It has been an awesome and humbling experience that I know will influence my future projects.

In his spare time Kent is a passionate surfer and can be found at any one of Auckland's West Coast beaches sharing his love for the great outdoors with his 8 year old twins.
